PrescriptionsOur medical dispensing services are always supervised by a fully registered pharmacist.
We provide a complete Prescription dispensing service. This includes:
- Dispensing prescription medicines. Just bring in your written prescription provided by your doctor, dentist or midwife. Your medical professional may also fax it to us.
- Giving you professional advice about the medicines you have been prescribed. Just ask if you would like to discuss your medicines with our pharmacists.
- Unit dose dispensing, on demand.
- Giving you a comprehensive medicine review, on demand.
- Dispensing a Emergency Contraceptive Pill, on demand.
- Dispensing Pharmacist-Only medications where a Prescription is not required.
- Other specialised services.
Your Prescription RecordWe always dispense your prescription medicines according to the legal and professional requirements of the New Zealand Ministry of Health, the Pharmaceutical Society of New Zealand, the Pharmaceutical Schedule, and our contract with the local Waitemata District Health Board. One of our obligations is to maintain a list of all prescription medicines we have dispensed to you and the eligible members of your family. This confidential Prescription Record Card is kept securely, and you may have a copy. Just ask. For your safety, we are also obliged to report any significant
findings about your medicine to the person (doctor, dentist
or midwife) who wrote the prescription. This will always be done in a
confidential manner.
Waiting times and delivery
We will dispense your prescriptions just as soon as we can, often within 5-10 minutes. However, at times it may take a little longer. If you are in a hurry, just ask us how long it will take. If we do not have your medicine in stock, we usually can have it later in the day or the next day.
If we cannot supply all the medicines needed, we will contact you to discuss your options.
If you are not able to collect your medicines direct from our pharmacy, we may be able to arrange delivery depending on your circumstances. We can also courier your medicines to you at the cost of the courier used.
Prescription repeatsIf you are entitled to a repeat on your prescription, we will only dispense this on your request, provided this is before the final date on the label of the first instalment. If you wish, you can telephone, fax or e-mail us to let us know you need your repeat, and we can have it ready when you arrive.
Prescription chargesWe charge you only the standard prescription charges (called 'co-payments') as set down by the appropriate health agencies. These are displayed at the pharmacy. However, if these change, you will be charged accordingly.
If your medicine is not fully subsidised, a premium will apply, in addition to the standard prescription charge. We will usually advise you if there is a fully subsidised medicine that can be substituted, then consult with you and your prescriber.
Prescription Subsidy Card After paying the prescription charges for 20 subsidised items, at any pharmacy, between 1 February to 31 January each year, we will issue your family with a Prescription Subsidy Card. This entitles you to lower prescription charges for eligible members of your family for the rest of the year.
In a GP Group? If you are enrolled with a GP group within a PHO you may be entitled to lower prescription charges. We will clarify this with you or the GP practice to ensure you receive any entitled benefits.
Receipts for prescription medicineWe give you a receipt, detailing the cost of each prescription item. This includes the amount you paid plus the cost paid by the government. If you do not understand how these were calculated, please ask.
So, we didn't do it right
We endeavour to provide professional pharmacy services while complying with government agencies and the Code of Health & Disability Services Consumer Rights. If you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, please let us know. We have a complaints procedure in place to address any issues you have. After this, if you feel your complaint has not been resolved, please contact the Health & Disability Commissioner here or the Waitemata District Health Board.
